Horse fetish by Andres Quandelacy, spiny oyster shell
Zuni horse fetish, made of natural spiny oyster shell with inlay turquoise eyes. It is 1 5/8" long, 1" tall, and 3/8" wide at the widest part. This fetish was handmade by Zuni artist Andres Quandelacy, who is part of a famous family of Zuni carvers going back many generations. The spiny oyster shell's unusual markings and layers give the horse fetish an interesting texture and a two-toned look, with orange on one side and pearly white on the other.
Horses represent strength, enlightenment, speed, and are thought to possess healing powers.
