Swan fetish by Corwin Yamutewa
Zuni fetish carving of a swan, handmade by Native American artist Corwin Yamutewa. This fetish is almost 2" tall at beak, 3 1/8" wide, and 1 1/2" deep at deepest part. It is made of white marble, with black marble inlay for the swan's face and beak. The detail in the feathers is beautiful. The fetish is signed on the bottom.
The artist Corwin Yamutewa is a firefighter and he only carves in the off season, so he doesn't produce as many fetishes, making his carvings more valuable.
Swans are not used in Zuni religious ceremonies, but they are one of the animals from around the world that Zuni fetish carvers make, to showcase their creativity, ingenuity, and skill.
