Zia Olla ca. 1900's
Vintage Zia Olla, ca. 1900, no signature. It has the traditional organic designs, with 3 1/2" red band on bottom and a band running along the top. Has one small crack, some water wear. Bottom has the original price in pencil of $1.95.
Zia pots are strong, because their temper is basalt, crushed black volcanic lava. Zia matte polychrome ollas, ca. 1750, feature mineral black outlines, buff oranges and reds, on a white, stone-polished slip. Most are globular, with short, vertical, red-painted rims. By the 1830s, Zia potters generally painted the rims black.
All of the Pueblo pottery is made with the coil and pinch method, made with clay the artists gathered, hand-polished, and traditionally fired. It will be double boxed and fully insured shipping.
Measurements: 10 1/2" tall, 9 1/2 wide, with a 5 3/4" opening.
