Hopi Powamui kachina, ca, 1930s. Powamui Kachina/ Bean Dance Kachina
Made from cottonwood and pigment paints.
In night ceremonies he wears no mask. Wears a kilt, sash, and red moccasins. Body painted red or in this case orange with two different colors on each shoulder. One shoulder is painted yellow and the other a different color.
Powamui kachinas appear in groups and are the most important actors in the Bean dance.
Color of face, arms, and kilt is white not bluish.
Measurements: 10" tall, 2 1/2" wide, 3" deep.
