Old Hopi kachina, ca, 1920s/30s.
Powamui Kachina/ Bean Dance Kachina
Made out of cottonwood and pigment paints.
In night ceremonies he wears no mask, but in the plaza ceremonies he wears a diagonal lines on the cheeks. Wears a kilt, sash, and red moccasins. Body painted red with one green and one yellow shoulder.
Powamui kachinas appear in groups and are the most important actors in the Bean dance.
Measurements: 9 1/8" tall, 2" wide, 3 1/4" deep.
