Yaqui wooden parrot dance mask, ca 1990s, hand-painted in acrylic and hand-carved from cottonwood, depicting a brightly colored parrot, with horsehair. Has the traditional Yaqui triangle painted border around edges of mask.
Large green parrots were native to Southern Arizona and Mexico and were hunted for their feathers to extinction.
Signed on the back. Handmade by Yaqui artist Esteban Gonzalez.
The Yaqui tribe is an Native American group that live in Northern Mexico and Southern Arizona.
Measurements: 4 3/4" wide, 4" deep, mask is about 8 1/8" tall, total length with hair is 20".
