Zuni sea turtle fetish with dragonfly, made by Zuni artist Daisy Leonard Natewa. The turtle is made from green marble, the dragonfly is carved from pink clam shell. All have inlay silver eyes. They are tied together with a medicine bundle made of coral and heishe shell beads. Signed on the bottom.
Turtles represent longevity, are a rain-bringing fetish, and serve as links to the Zuni ancestors. Dragonflies are symbols of rain, which is very important to the Zuni, as it is the source of all life on earth.
The medicine bundle is an offering to the animal's spirit that amplifies the power of the fetish.
