Zuni frogs and dragonfly fetish carving, made from different stones, by Zuni artist Daisy Leonard Natewa. This fetish depicts Zuni animals that symbolize water. The bottom frog is made of pink/orange marble, the frog on its back is made of a composite stone that includes Kingman turquoise, spiny oyster shell, and pyrite, and the dragonfly is made of pink clam shell. All have inlay silver eyes. They are bound together with a medicine bundle with coral and turquoise beads. Signed on the bottom.
Frogs and dragonflies are both symbols of rain, which is very important to the Zuni, as it is the source of all life on earth. Frogs are also associated with abundance, water, and fertility.
