Saguaro cactus sculpture by Native American artist Jesse Doe
Saguaro cactus sculpture carved from Saguaro rib wood by Native American artist Jesse Doe. This carving has great detail in the texture of the cactus and the rocks at its base. The center column includes two bird nesting holes, one of which has a flicker bird sticking its head out of it. Signed on the bottom.
Measurements: about 12" tall, base is 3 1/4" at the widest part and 3" at the deepest part.
Jesse J. Doe was born in 1966 and grew up at the foot of a mountain quarry in Tucson, Arizona. Jesse learned his his wood carving from Hopi carver Lawrence Acadiz. He also learned the traditional mold making techniques from renowned wildlife sculptor Mark Rossi.

Today, as we look upon climate change, and where it may lead. I'm thinking any little change in climate could disrupt the ecological system that may lead to a catastrophic death of many plants native to our desert. As for my point of view, people look down on harvesting native saguaro skeletons. My philosophy is making these saguaros sculptures is going to immortalize these plants. So these saguaros will never go extinct as long as I keep producing them."
