Old brass horse harness ornament. Design is a bear climbing a tree. Ornaments were used for the decoration of horse harness gear, especially for shire and parade horses. They became especially popular in England from the mid-19th century.
This bear holding a tree could represent the coat of arms of Madrid, Spain which features a bear holding onto a tree as it reaches for berries. If this decorated the harness of a brewery wagon, it could represent the coat of arms of a city such as Berlin, Germany.
