Zuni hummingbird fetish, depicting a hummingbird drinking from a rose flower, by Zuni artist Ruben Najera. Native American Made. Made of carved abalone, serpentine and rosewood. Hummingbird has inlay jet eyes. Signed on the bottom. Very delicate and skillful carving. Very beautiful.
Bird fetishes were thought to carry prayers to the sky asking for rain and blessings. Ravens represent magic, they are the messengers of the great mystery, and they are tricksters but without the negative characteristics.
Measurements: It measures 3 1/2" tall, 2 1/2" wide and about 2 1/2"deep because of the wing span.
