Zuni hummingbird fetish, depicting a hummingbird hovering above two rose flowers, by Zuni artist Ruben Najera. Native American Made. Hummingbird is made of shed antler with mother of pearl wings. The roses are made of mother of pearl, while the leave is carved abalone. It sits on a base of fluorite stone. Hummingbird has inlay jet eyes. Signed on the bottom. Very delicate and skillful carving. Very beautiful.
Bird fetishes were thought to carry prayers to the sky asking for rain and blessings. Ravens represent magic, they are the messengers of the great mystery, and they are tricksters but without the negative characteristics.
Measurements: 1 1/4" tall, 1 1/2" wide and about 1 3/8"deep.
