Zuni fetish of a California Condor bird, by Zuni artist Hiram Peynetsa. Native American Made. Made of carved black marble, with red marble for the face and beak, and inlay turquoise eyes. It is 2" tall, 1 1/4" long and 1" deep. Signed on the bottom. Very detailed and an unusual subject matter.
Bird fetishes were thought to carry prayers to the sky asking for rain and blessings.
