Book: Havasupai Baskets and their Makers: 1930-1940
Hardcover - great condition, still has dust jacket, jacket is in archival plastic protection
By Barbara and Edwin McKee and Joyce Herold
This book describes in detail 184 baskets woven by 32 women members of the Havasupai Indian tribe living in the westernmost reaches of the Grand Canyon. During the first half of the twentieth century, these women developed the art of basket making to a very high degree, among the finest made by any Native Americans. The author and her husband, the Park Naturalist at Grand Canyon National Park, became acquainted with this isolated tribe and collected these baskets from 1930-1940 when they lived on the south rim of the canyon. This book is a must have for anyone interested in baskets, and the photographs and illustrations are very educational and useful in identifying baskets.
