Zuni fetish, depicting an parrot or a cockatoo, by Zuni artist Derrick Kamasee. Native American Made. Made from a tagua nut. It is 2" tall, and about 1" deep by 1" wide. Signed on the bottom. Very delicate and skillful carving.
Bird fetishes were thought to carry prayers to the sky asking for rain and blessings. Parrots were prized for their beautiful feathers and their ability to live with humans.
