Double sided corn maiden by Vicky Quandelacy, mother of pearl
Corn maiden fetish by Zuni artist Vicky Quandelacy, made of carved mother of pearl, with turquoise, coral, and jet inlay, on a Picasso marble base with blue lapis chips. It measures 2 1/4" wide, 1" deep at base, and 3 1/4" tall. It is reversible, so it can be displayed facing either way. Each side depicts a Zuni maiden and a Corn Maiden, with corn and dragonfly designs. Beautifully carved, with intricate details, especially on the maidens' clothing, this would be a showpiece of any Zuni fetish collection.
The Corn Maiden helps to bring a healthy corn crop (abundance), which is an important source of food to the Zuni.
